    Kids Dental Cleaning

Practicing good oral hygiene and scheduling regular checkups for a teeth cleaning are both important preventative maintenance steps you can take for your child’s oral health. At Paradise Dental, our experienced dentists and staff can help your children achieve bright and healthy smiles!

It’s important to remember that even with diligent brushing and flossing, a thin film of plaque can still accumulate on your child’s teeth and gums. Left untreated, it can cause everything from cavities to gingivitis. That’s why the American Dental Association recommends that you have your kid’s teeth cleaned and examined at least once every six months.

What is the Children’s Dental Cleaning Process?

During your child’s regular dental cleaning, Paradise Dental’s professionally trained staff will start by carefully examining everything from the teeth to the tongue for any evidence of decay, teeth grinding or other potential tooth disorders. We will then clean your child’s teeth by removing any plaque that may have accumulated since their last visit, and finish by polishing their teeth. Bitewing X-rays are also periodically taken during yearly check-ups. X-rays enable us to detect any decay that may be developing between teeth as well as possible signs of tumors, cysts and bone loss which normally would not be evident.

How Can I Prevent Plaque Buildup in Between my Kid’s Cleanings?

Below are a few ways you can help your child prevent the build-up of plaque and cavities:

    • Ensure your children are brushing their teeth at least twice a day with a soft or medium-bristled toothbrush. They should brush gently in a circular motion and use fluoride free toothpaste to remove food particles and plaque from the tooth surfaces. Also be sure that your child brushes the top surface of their tongue; this will remove any extra plaque-causing food particles, foul-smelling bacteria, and help keep their breath fresh!
    • Make sure kids clean between their teeth by flossing at least once a day. Decay-causing bacteria can linger between teeth where toothbrush bristles can’t reach.
    • Tongue scrapers are one more step toward optimal oral health as it removes bad smelling bacteria and bacteria that causes periodontitis.
